The PlayStation 4
A home video game console called the PlayStation 4 (PS4) was created by Sony Computer Entertainment. The PlayStation 4 was introduced as the PlayStation 3’s replacement in February 2013. It debuted in North America on November 15, 2013, in Europe, South America, and Australia on November 29, 2013, and in Japan on February 22, 2014. It competes with Nintendo’s Wii U and Switch as well as Microsoft’s Xbox One, which is an eighth generation system.
Why Was The PS4 Made?
The console has an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) built upon the x86-64 architecture, which can theoretically peak at 1.84 teraflops; AMD claimed that it was the “most powerful” APU it had developed to date. This is a departure from the more complicated Cell microarchitecture of its predecessor. The PlayStation 4 puts more of an emphasis on social engagement and integrating with other hardware and software. For example, it allows users to play games remotely on their PlayStation Vita and other approved devices (“Remote Play”) or stream their gameplay to friends or the internet (“Share Play”). The controller for the console was also updated and enhanced compared to the PlayStation 3, featuring, among other things, better buttons, analog sticks, and an integrated touchpad. The console also allows for the viewing of 4K multimedia files and HDR10 high dynamic range video.
The Controversy Behind The Release Of The PS4
Critics praised Sony for recognizing the demands of its customers, supporting independent game production, and for not enforcing the constrictive digital rights management policies similar to those that Microsoft had initially promised for the Xbox One when the PlayStation 4 was first released. Before its release, both critics and independent game developers complimented the PlayStation 4’s superior capabilities to those of its rivals; programmers called the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s performance gaps “huge” and “obvious.” Increased demand also assisted Sony in dominating global console sales. The PlayStation 4 overtook the PlayStation 2 as the second-best-selling home gaming console of all time by the end of October 2019.
The Release Date For the PS4
The PlayStation 4 Slim, a more compact version of the console, and the PlayStation 4 Pro, a high-end model with an upgraded GPU and a faster CPU clock rate to provide improved performance and 4K resolution in supported games, were both introduced by Sony on September 7, 2016. Following Sony’s announcement that the PlayStation 4 will receive three years of support, the PlayStation 4 was replaced by the PlayStation 5 in November 2020. All other PlayStation 4 variants, with the exception of the Slim model, were discontinued in Japan in January 2021.
How Much Is A PS4 Slim In South Africa?
The PS4 Slim is a redesigned version of the original PS4 that, according to Sony, is 30% smaller, 16% lighter, and 30% more energy-efficient than the original device. Consequently, individuals who currently own a PS4 have almost no reason to purchase the Slim unless they truly require the few extra inches of space. However, the Slim’s R22,299 price tag makes it the most accessible PS4 for would-be purchasers who want to play Ghost of Tsushima or Death Stranding.
