You can apply for a temporary identification certificate if your application for an identity document won’t be finished in time for you to cast a ballot (TIC). Cost of the TIC is R70,00. You will require:

ID number required for validation

2 ID pictures

You can apply for an ID if you’re at least 16 years old (ID). To register for your matric exams, obtain a driver’s licence, or open a bank account, you will require identification.

If you receive your ID and the personal information is incorrect, the Department of Home Affairs will replace your ID at no cost to you.
