How Much Is Bombay Gin In South Africa

What Is Bombay Gin?

The Bombay Spirits Company, a division of Bacardi, produces Bombay Sapphire gin in Laverstoke Mill in the English village of Laverstoke in the county of Hampshire.English wine trader IDV originally introduced the brand in 1986. Bombay Sapphire is marketed in a flat-sided, sapphire-colored bottle with a picture of Queen Victoria on the label. The name comes from the gin and tonic cocktail made popular by the Royal Indian Armed Forces during the British Raj. “Sapphire” refers to the violet-blue Star of Bombay, which was mined from British Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

Ingredients In The Bombay Gin

Almond, lemon peel, liquorice, juniper berries, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia, cubeb, and grains of paradise are among the ten ingredients in the drink’s flavoring mix. In order to add flavor and scent, alcohol from a different supplier is three times evaporated in a carterhead still and then passed through a mesh or basket containing the ten botanicals. In comparison to gins made with a copper pot still, this is thought to give the gin a lighter, more flowery flavour. In the UK, the Nordics, several markets in continental Europe, Canada, and Australia, water from Lake Vyrnwy is added to Bombay Sapphire to reduce its strength to 40.0%. The 47.0% version is the standard for sale at duty-free shops in all markets.

Production Of The Bombay Gin

Bombay Sapphire was produced and packaged by G&J Greenall in Warrington, Cheshire, under a contract with Bacardi up until 2013. A new facility at Laverstoke Mill in Laverstoke, Hampshire, would house the production process, it was revealed in 2011. Planning permission was granted in February 2012, and the visitor center opened to the public in the autumn of 2014. These plans included the restoration of the former Portal paper mill at the proposed site, as well as the construction of a visitor center. The visitor center included two glasshouses built by Thomas Heatherwick for plants used as botanicals in the production of Bombay Sapphire gin. As part of the transfer of production, two of Greenall’s stills were relocated. The drink’s bottling was still contracted out to G&J Greenall after production was moved to Laverstoke, and the undiluted gin was tankered to Warrington for bottling and diluting. After that, bottling was moved to Glasgow.

It is bottled at 42% and was created to balance out the sweetness of most tonic water. A limited-edition Bombay gin known as Star of Bombay was made in 2015 for the UK market. It features an additional two botanicals, lemongrass and black peppercorns, in addition to the original ten. It is distilled from grain and is bottled at 47.5%.
