The Regulatory Body

The Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), a regulating agency for retailers in South Africa, ensures that “all people carrying out the things to do of a property agent as a carrier to the public are registered with the EAAB.” As evidence of such registration and confirmation that such character is lawfully existing, a constancy fund certificate is granted, which must be renewed annually.

Steps on How to Become a Licensed Real Estate Agent in South Africa.

1. Work for a real estate company

Obtain a job with an estate agency. At this point, your 12-month internship will officially begin, and you will be classified as an intern property agent.

2. Become an Estate Agency Affairs Board member (EAAB)

To get a Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC), you must register with the EAAB as an intern agent and provide the following:

3. Finish your 12-month internship.

The internship is a 12-month, non-stop requirement starting on the day your FFC had its first issue. You will get helpful, realistic, and theoretical knowledge about the business during this time.

3. Finish your 12-month internship.

The internship is a 12-month, non-stop requirement starting on the day your FFC had its first issue. During this time, you will learn relevant, practical, and theoretical knowledge about the business under the guidance of the principal, coach, or supervisor assigned to help you.

4. Finish NQF

This NQF4 credential contains 150 credits, translating to around 1 500 hours of learning to complete the course. The intern real estate agent can complete the course at their own pace but within the allotted time limit because SSETA only demands that 30% of the learning time be spent in a classroom.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

All agents with complete registration must maintain their position and professional designation. To achieve this, they must acquire and retain 60 CPD points throughout a rolling three-year cycle (about 60 hours of training).

Being eligible to become a full-status real estate agent or PPRE is not for the weak of heart since aspiring real estate agents must not only manage their job and home lives but also find time to finish the necessary coursework.
