Uber is a great way to be your own boss and make money. Most people are eligible to drive with Uber, even if you don’t have a car. Here’s what you need to know if you’re driving anywhere in South Africa.

What do I need to do to become an Uber Driver in South Africa?

  • Sign up online

Got an email address and a smartphone? Great, now tell us a bit more about yourself and we’ll get you started.

  • Book your Safety Screening and Driver Evaluation

Choose a location near you & click on the booking to start:

  • Johannesburg & Pretoria.
  • Durban & Pietermaritzburg.
  • Cape Town.

ALL other cities only require a Safety Screening that can be done at any Jetline store or registered Huru/MIE capture partner.

  • Upload your documents

Time for some paperwork. There are some of the documents we need to see:

  • A valid South African Professional driving permit (PrDP)
  • You have to be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Provide a driver profile photo
  • Safety Screening Certificate
  • Driving Evaluation Certificate (ONLY required in CPT, JHB, DBN and PE)

  •  Get a vehicle

Kindly note vehicle requirements. 

You may not sell, rent or transfer your Uber profile or “slot” / “software license”, as this is against Uber Partnership Terms and Conditions. 

  • Activate your account

If you’ve completed all the above steps, congratulations! You’re ready to activate your account and start making money.

 

How can I drive Uber in South Africa in 2022?

  • Visit the Uber Website.

 

  •  Add your vehicle

The vehicle on-boarding process has been amended to prioritize vehicle based on the date of sign up.

Therefore it is no longer necessary to join the waiting list yourself, as you will be automatically entered based on the date of sign up to Uber.

 

  • Upload your documents

Upload your PrDP  to your profile.

Complete your Driver screening and certification session.

There are a few additional steps to become an active driver-partner eg. a Screening check and certification session.

  • Go ahead from Uber

When you reach the top of the waiting list, you will be notified by Uber. After this load your vehicle documents  and start driving!

 

 

What are the Compulsory Car features for Uber in South Africa?

Your vehicle must-haves

  • Model year 2011 or newer
  • 5-door hatchback or 4-door sedan or minivan
  • ABS, passenger and driver airbags safety features fitted
  • Good condition with no cosmetic damage

Documentation Needed

  • Operators Card (Double disk).
  • Commercial vehicle insurance.
  • Vehicle inspection can be completed at ANY Tiger Wheel and Tyre (TWT) , DEKRA.
  • Operating licenses are currently not required due to the moratorium by the regulator (CPT & JHB).
  • Operating License application process from the department of transport(CPT & JHB).
