This procedure consists of a number of steps, each of which must be accomplished within a certain but constrained time range and in compliance with the educational standards established by the relevant regulating body.

The Estate Agency Affairs Board is South Africa’s regulatory organisation for real estate agents (EAAB). EAAB (https://www.eaab.org.za) guarantees “that every individual performing estate agent duties for the general public is registered with the EAAB. A fidelity fund certificate, which must be updated annually, is given as proof of registration and as confirmation that the person is legally qualified to engage in estate-planning activities “.

Let’s examine how to become a licenced real estate agent in South Africa.

Internships must be completed within a continuous 12-month period starting on the day your FFC was first issued. You will receive instruction in the following areas and acquire practical knowledge: business, law, finance, marketing, management, administration, and paralegal.

Two files, a Logbook and a Portfolio of Evidence, are required of intern real estate agents (PoE).

  1. Finish NQF 4.

  1. Finish the PDE4 (Professional Designation Examination)

The intern estate agent may apply to the EAAB to take the Professional Designation Examination for non-principal estate agents (PDE4), which combines a test of industry knowledge and a case study, after successfully completing the Intern Logbook and having their NQF4 certified by SETA.

According to the Education Regulations, a candidate cannot be registered as a full status estate agent unless they have passed the PDE4 given by the EAAB.

Continuing Professional Growth (CPD)

All agents with complete registration must keep up with maintaining their position and professional designation. To do this, they must acquire and retain 60 CPD points throughout the course of a rolling three-year cycle (about 60 hours of training).

Being eligible to become a full status real estate agent, or PPRE, is not for the weak of heart because aspiring real estate agents must not only manage their work and home lives but also find time to finish the necessary coursework.
