In South Africa, buying a sim card might not be the most straightforward thing.  You  will be required to  go through the RICA process to activate it. The Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication (RICA) telecommunications regulatory body ensures that there are no fraudulent SIM cards activated. In South Africa,  SIM cards are sold between 0.99 ZAR (0.06 USD) to 5 ZAR (0.34 USD) in the official stores of the operators or authorized resellers (such as grocery stores). However, Hello Mobile gives out SIM cards for free. 1 GB of data valid for 7 days is available for as low as 65 ZAR (4.40 USD).
