John Orr Technical High School Application
Enrolment information
GENERAL
- Language of instruction and communication is English.
- Afrikaans is offered as a first additional language of learning.
- Please refer to the John Orr Technical High School enrolment information and rules brochure for school guidelines, procedure and protocol.
- Please remember that John Orr is a Technical High School and learners who apply should have an established foundation in terms of our key learning areas- Mathematics and Physical Science.
SELECTION PROCESS
- All learners who wish to enrol at John Orr Technical High School need to write a standardized Aptitude test before they will be accepted into John Orr Technical High School. There is a set criteria (Academic & Technical aptitude) that the learners need to meet in order to gain acceptance for schooling at John Orr Technical High School.
- Only those learners who have written a standardized aptitude test and have met the set criteria will complete an application form for admittance into John Orr Technical High School.Only those learners who have written a standardized aptitude test and have met the set criteria will complete an application form for admittance into John Orr Technical High School.
- The selection process will be administered by the John Orr Technical High School Support Centre as well as the Headmaster. All learners who are accepted into John Orr Technical High School, based on successful meeting the criteria in their standardized aptitude test, will be notified telephonically. A formal letter of acceptance will be issued on payment of the application fee.
- Please note: Do not buy school uniforms, stationary, work / exercise and text books until your child has formally been accepted into the John Orr Technical High School, notified by the John Orr Support Centre and formally been issued a letter of acceptance from the admissions department.
Please Note:
- Admission test times: ALL 09:00-15:00 (Extended times due to the addition of more evaluation sub tests used).
- All Admission tests are written at John Orr Technical High School.
- No Afrikaans in Grade 7- No admittance into JOTHS.
On the day of the admissions test:
- Parents need to accompany their children in the morning as parents will need to complete a biographical questionnaire before their child writes the admissions test.
- A copy of the learners latest/current school report needs to be brought with them.
- A letter of reference/testimonial from the learners current school needs to be brought with them.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- All learners that have met the set criteria and have written the standardized aptitude test will complete an application form for admittance into John Orr Technical High School.
- Please ensure that the application form as well as ALL CERTIFIED supporting documentation is submitted to John Orr Technical High School with the applicable R600 (refundable) administrative fee.
The supporting documentation required includes:
- The learner’s original latest/final school leaving report. (Only to be received by John Orr Technical High School at the end of the year, once the learner has completed his current academic year).
- Transfer card from the learner’s previous school (Only to be received by John Orr Technical High School at the end of the year, once the learner has completed his current academic year).
- Medical letter (if the learner has any medical related issue/condition). Please include all chronic medication that the candidate needs to take.
- Certified copy of the learner’s Birth certificate (Please formally notify John Orr Technical High School with a letter from Home Affairs with any changes in learner names and surnames).
- Immigrant study/work permits where applicable.
- Certified copy of the learner’s birth certificate (Please formally notify John Orr Technical High School with a letter from Home Affairs with any changes in learner names and surnames).

- Certified copy of both parents/guardians’ IDs.
- 2 Coloured passport sized photos of the learner.
- Proof of residence: Any certified copied statement or account that has the parents/guardians residential address on it.
- The R600 refundable administrative fee will:
– Become the enrolment fee if the application for admittance was successful. This amount will be deducted from the learner’s school fees for that Academic year.
– Be forfeited if the learner’s application was successful and the parents do not notify the school that they are not accepting the enrolment offer.
– Fully refunded if a successful applicant notifies the school that they will not be accepting the enrolment offer timeously.
- Refunds will only be granted upon producing the original receipt with a certified copy of the parents ID that originally paid the R600 refundable administrative fee.
- Please inform us by timeously if your child was accepted at another High School that he/she wishes to attend as opposed to John Orr Technical High School. Preferably by the beginning of the last qaurter of the current year.
