Admission Requirement

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 
Applicants with the National Senior Certificate: 
The minimum requirements for admission to a Diploma must be met. In addition, students will have the following:

Admission Point Score (APS) of 26
• English (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4
• Mathematics: Level 4

Applicants the NCV level 4: 
NCV level 4 with at least 50% for English (Home Language or First Additional Language), 50% for Mathematics and 70% in four IT and computer Science subjects.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) AND CREDIT ACCUMULATION AND TRANSFER (CAT): 
Applicants wishing to be considered for admission in terms of RPL or to have credits transferred to this programme must indicate this on their application. The University policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) will be applied.

PROGRESSION:
Students who successfully complete this Diploma will be able to apply for admission to an Advanced Diploma in ICT at UMP or another Higher Education Institution.

DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE IN PLANT PRODUCTION

The Diploma in Agriculture in Plant Production focuses on plant production; Agronomy (mainly maize, potatoes and sugarcane), Vegetable production (such as carrots, cabbage, spinach, lettuce), and Fruit production (citrus and subtropical fruits). The areas of study covered by the programme include; crop production, water management and farm management. The candidates looking for a career in this field need to be hard working and have a passion for agriculture and entrepreneurship.

PROGRAMME CURRICULUM DURATION: 
DURATION: 
The Diploma in Agriculture in Plant Production is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 6 qualification.

CURRICULUM: 
Year 1 & 2 
In the first two years, students are exposed to theoretical and practical aspects of Plant Production including Soil Science, Plant Protection and Propagation, Farm Management, Botany, Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy, Fruit Production, Vegetable Production and Water Management.

Year 3 
In the third year, students spend the full year on a commercial farm to learn the relevant skills required by the industry and during which there is the opportunity to apply theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in a real world setting.

  • Final Grade 12 results (if available).
  • Grade 11 results (if currently doing grade 12).
  • A copy of your South African ID document OR passport for International students.
  • Academic Record and Certificate of Conduct if previously enrolled at another university.

Step 4:  Complete a student accommodation form.
