North West University NWU B ed Honours

BEdHons (NQF Level 8) (SAQA ID: 59302)

Requirements to apply for the BEd Honour’s degree in Education, include but not limited to:

  • A BEd or a B-degree + PGCE qualification at NQF level 7
  • Aggregate of a minimum of 65% and higher in previous qualification
  • Advanced computer literacy and personal access to Internet on a regular basis.

A limited number of student-intake per academic year, is in line with the Faculty of Education’s enrolment planning and according to lecturers’ capacity to service students.

The rules for BEdHons must be read together with the general academic rules of the university. Admission to this qualification takes place according to the general rules (A.6) of the university. Students must be in possession of the required qualifications for admission to study in the BEdHons programme selected.

No contact sessions are provided for distance students.

The North-West University are committed to its students. Lecturers provide support to students utilising the Learner Management system eFundi Portal. The learner Management System (eFundi) supports communication between lecturers and students and creates a collaborative environment for them. Academic information such as subject content, important dates, additional sources, and forms of instruction are provided through eFundi.

What is a Learner Management System

A Learner Management system supports communication between lecturers and students and creates a collaboration environment for students and researchers. Academic information such as subject content, discussion forums, important dates, additional resources and supplementary instruction are clearly advised on e-Fundi.

BEdHons (Curriculum Studies)

Students who hold a BEd or a B-degree and PGCE or appropriate NQF Level 7 qualification.

An aggregate of a minimum of 65% and higher in the previous qualification, however numbers will be capped in accordance with the Faculty of Education’s enrolment plan. Please note that, owing to specific capacity constraints, the NWU reserves the right to select candidates for admission; therefore, prospective students who comply with the minimum academic requirements may not be successful in their application and may not necessarily be admitted to the programme.

Internet access and computer literacy on a regular basis is non-negotiable.

The BEdHons is offered as a fully web-based programme supported by the NWU’s eFundi platform, which is an electronic teaching and learning site.
Lecturers may opt to provide online-sessions on eFundi.
Study material will be couriered to a student’s physical address.
Study Guides and reading material will be available on eFundi.
Computer and Internet access on a regular basis is non-negotiable. Without regular Internet access it will not be possible to successfully complete the programme.

BEdHons (Educational Management and Leadership)

Students who hold a BEd or a B-degree and PGCE or appropriate NQF Level 7 qualification.

An aggregate of 65% and higher in the previous qualification, however numbers will be capped in accordance with the Faculty of Education’s enrolment plan. Please note that, owing to specific capacity constraints, the NWU reserves the right to select candidates for admission; therefore prospective students who comply with the minimum academic requirements may not be successful in their application and may not necessarily be admitted to the programme.

The BEdHons is offered as a fully web-based programme supported by the NWU’s eFundi platform, which is an electronic teaching and learning site.

Recorded sessions per semester per module is made at the discretion of the lecturer. Recordings of Lesson and teaching sessions can be downloaded from eFundi or UODL’s website. Lecturers may opt to provide additional online sessions on eFundi.

Prescribed study material will either be available on eFundi or if in hard copy, sourced by students from relevant publishers or sites such as Takealot. Study Guides and reading material will be available on eFundi.
