POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Postgraduate Diploma Public Health (PPH01)

Admission Requirements
The minimum admission requirement is a bachelor’s degree, in health, education or social sciences, two years of work experience, fluency in written/spoken English language, computer-competence and internet skills. The programme is aimed at people who would like to make an impact in their communities and institutions regarding various public health issues.

Registration and Renewal of Registration
(i) Full attendance of Summer and Winter Schools is compulsory. Students who fail to attend the compulsory Summer and Winter School sessions will not be allowed to register and take courses in the applicable semester. In special circumstances consideration will be given as approved by the Dean
(ii) The renewal of registration is dependent on satisfactory academic progress. A student may be refused renewal of registration if:
(a) At the end of the first year has not passed at least 3 of the required 6 modules of the qualification
(b) At the end of the second year has not completed all required modules of the qualification.

MASTER OF NURSING PROGRAMME (MNSG01)

DURATION
The course shall extend over a period of two (2) years. Except with the special permission of the Senate the duration of the course shall not be longer than four (4) years. The course can be taken on part-time or full-time basis.

SELECTION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Selection
Only a limited number of applicants can be admitted to the programme. Applicants are selected on merit by a SHSC selection committee

Admission requirements

Applicants must have
(a) a four-year BCur degree or equivalent qualification;
(b) obtained an average of 60% in the Bachelor’s degree on the area of speciality;
(c) proof of registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
(d) two (2) years clinical experience in the specialty of his/her choice.
Working in specialty of choice will be a strong recommendation

Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC)

Registration with the SA Nursing Council is compulsory.
Applicants with foreign qualifications must submit the proof of SAQA evaluation and SANC registration

Indemnity required for clinical programmes

Students registered for a clinical master’s degree should acquire indemnity cover and renew this on a yearly basis.
