The original Riley vehicle was a belt-driven, single-cylinder, compact light car that was never put into production. In 1900, motorized tricycles were introduced. In 1903, a handlebar-steered tricycle with two forward speeds and a 517cc engine with mechanically operated inlet valves was released. Up to 1907, tricars were produced; later models included twins with drivers’ seats in place of saddles, water cooling, and wheel steering. The company’s early 4-wheelers, which had engines located amidships with gearboxes beside and chain drive, were likewise equipped with the 1034cc V-Twin engine. From 1908 onward, larger, 2 liter V-Twins with more traditional designs and spherical radiators were produced.
