About the South African Reserve Bank (SARB):
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is South Africa’s central bank, established in 1921. Its main purpose is to maintain price stability for sustainable economic growth within the country. Prior to its establishment, South African commercial banks issued banknotes to the public.
SARB plays several crucial roles, including:
- Ensuring that the banking, money, and financial system in South Africa meet community requirements and international standards.
- Assisting the South African government and other economic community members with data for macroeconomic policy.

About the SARB Scholarship Program:
The South African Reserve Bank (SARB), in collaboration with the Data Science Academic Committee of the National Graduate Academy for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (NGA(MaSS)), offers scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year. These scholarships are for Master’s degrees specializing in Data Science and Machine Learning, with a specific focus on financial analytics.
The scholarships cover various postgraduate qualifications at different institutions, including the University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, North-West University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Venda, University of Limpopo, Sol Plaatje University, and the University of the Western Cape.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to apply for the SARB Scholarship:
- South African citizenship
- Age under 35 years old
- Provisional acceptance into one of the full-time Master’s programs at the participating universities
- Selection of modules that include financial analytics topics
- Completion of a relevant Honors degree with a minimum overall average of 65%
