About the South African Society of Music Teachers (SASMT):
The South African Society of Music Teachers (SASMT) is a professional music society that has been in existence since 1918, making it the oldest music society in Southern Africa. SASMT represents music teachers across various educational settings, including schools, private practice, music centers, colleges, and universities.
About the SASMT Teachers Bursary Programme:
SASMT offers a bursary programme for existing SASMT members who are in financial need and are pursuing further studies in music. The bursaries are awarded every two years, and the amount of coverage depends on the availability of funds within SASMT.
Eligibility Criteria for the SASMT Teachers Bursary:
To be eligible to apply for the SASMT Teachers Bursary, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must be pursuing a music qualification.
- You must be registered to study at a tertiary institution in South Africa.
- You must have been an existing paid-up SASMT member for a minimum of two years.
- You must demonstrate financial need.
How to Apply for the SASMT Teachers Bursary:
Follow these steps to apply for the SASMT Teachers Bursary:
- Download and complete the SASMT Teacher Bursary Application Form for 2024-2025 (available in PDF format).
- Prepare clear copies of the following supporting documents, which must be submitted along with your completed application form:
- A photo in electronic format (approximately 500px in height).
- Certified copy of your ID document (not older than three months).
- Proof of registration at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead).
- Full academic record (on the institution’s letterhead).
- Short Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- A motivational letter supporting your application, explaining why you should be awarded the bursary.
- A recommendation by a SASMT member.
- Submit your application electronically via email to elmabritz9@gmail.com. Please include the words “SASMT Teacher Bursary Application – Your Full Name” in the email subject line.
