About South African Reserve Bank (SARB):

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is the central bank of South Africa, established in 1921. Its primary mission is to promote economic growth and sustainability in the country. SARB is responsible for overseeing South Africa’s financial system, ensuring its stability, and providing economic data and reports to both national and international stakeholders.

SARB plays a crucial role in addressing the skills shortage in South Africa by offering various external bursaries and scholarships. These programs support students from disadvantaged backgrounds and aim to enhance job opportunities for South Africa’s youth.

South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Scholarship 2024-2025:

In collaboration with the Data Science Academic Committee of the National Graduate Academy for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (NGA(MaSS)), the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is awarding scholarships to students pursuing Master’s degree programs in financial analytics, artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning.

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must gain acceptance into one of the following Master’s programs at accredited South African universities:

  1. North-West University (NWU): MSc (Business/ Informatics/ Mathematics)
  2. University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)/ NWU/ University of Venda/ University of Limpopo/ University of Pretoria (UP)/ Sol Plaatje University: MSc (eScience)
  3. Stellenbosch University: MSc (Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence) or MComm (Financial Risk Management)
  4. University of KwaZulu-Natal: MSc (Data Science)
  5. UP: MIT (Big Data Science)/ MComm (Advanced Data Analytics)
  6. University of Cape Town: Master’s degree (Analytics/ Data Science)

Scholarship recipients are required to submit their final examination results by 31st December for evaluation by the committee.

Eligibility Criteria:

To apply for the SARB scholarship, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen under the age of 35.
  • Must receive provisional acceptance into one of the approved Master’s programs.
  • The selected module must include a financial analytical topic.
  • Should have completed an Honours degree with a minimum average of 65%.
  • Must be pursuing or intending to pursue full-time education at one of the selected universities.
  • Required to attend specific workshops as mandated by NGA(MaSS) and SARB.
