About Nelson Mandela University

Nelson Mandela University, formerly known as Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, was established in 2005 through the merger of three institutions: the Port Elizabeth campus of Vista University, the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE), and the PE Technikon. With its roots dating back to 1882, the university has seven faculties offering a wide range of study programs, including Business and Economic Sciences, Engineering, Education, Built Environment and Technology, Humanities, Law, Science, and Health Sciences.

Tegkor/Nelson Mandela University Accounting Bursary 2025-2026

Nelson Mandela University is offering the Tegkor/NMU Accounting Bursary for undergraduate and postgraduate Accounting students. The bursary covers various fields of study and provides financial support to eligible students.

Bursary Value:

  • Up to R12,500 for first-year students
  • Up to R7,500 for second and third-year students
  • Up to R7,500 for postgraduate students

Eligibility Criteria:

1st-year students:

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matriculation
  • Minimum of 80% in Mathematics
  • Minimum Applicant Score (AS) of 420
  • Accepted to study BCom Accounting or BCom Accounting Sciences
  • Household income between R350,000 and R600,000 per year (preference)

2nd and 3rd-year students:

  • South African citizen
  • Studying BCom General Accounting or BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting)
  • Second or third year of full-time study in 2025-2026
  • Minimum of 70% for first-year OR minimum of 65% for second-year
  • Social contribution during 2021
  • Household income between R350,000 and R600,000 per year (preference)

Postgraduate students:

  • South African citizen
  • Enrolled in postgraduate program at NMU for 2022
  • Minimum weighted average of 60% in third year OR 55% in PGDA program
  • Household income between R350,000 and R600,000 per year (preference)

Required Documents:

  • Identification document (copy)
  • Parent/guardian proof of income
  • Matriculation results or certificate (1st-year students)
  • Complete transcripts/academic records (2nd and 3rd-year, postgraduate students)
  • Record of contributions to society (2nd and 3rd-year students)
  • Proof of income from parent/guardian (postgraduate students)
