TETA Scholarship At The World Maritime University (WMU) 2024-2025
The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) in South Africa is offering scholarships for students to pursue an MSc in Maritime Affairs at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden, Malmö. This scholarship opportunity is intended for individuals from families employed in the broader maritime sectors in South Africa.
The MSc program is divided into three phases, starting from September 2024-2025 and ending in November.
- Foundation Studies: This phase provides a comprehensive understanding of IMO governance, maritime policy, and various aspects of the ocean. Candidates will also begin preparing their dissertations during this phase.
- Specialization Studies: Candidates can choose from various specializations, including Maritime Education & Training, Maritime Energy Management, Maritime Law & Policy, Maritime Safety & Environmental Administration, Ocean Sustainability, Governance & Management, Port Management, or Shipping Management & Logistics.
- Dissertation: Candidates will work on a dissertation based on a relevant issue in their home country or a pressing maritime matter. The research must include original methodologies and can be done individually or in groups.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the TETA Scholarship at WMU, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Should have been academically accepted at WMU.
- Must be currently employed and have worked with the same employer for a minimum of 12 months. Consent from the current employer is required, and candidates will be allowed to continue working after completing the program.
- Must have at least three years of experience in the maritime sector.
- Female candidates and middle managers will be given preference.

- WMU admission application along with Matric certificate
- Certified ID document
- Certified copy of the passport (if available), or proof of application for a passport
- TETA motivational statement
- Consent from the current employer, indicating approval to continue work after completing the program (sabbatical or unpaid leave will also be considered)

Closing Date
The closing date for the TETA Scholarship at WMU 2024-2025 is May 5. Applications submitted before this date will be considered by the scholarship panel.
