Dental Assistants are tasked with preparing patients for examinations, assisting during procedures, managing office and reception duties, and ensuring a high standard of infection control and hygiene within the dental practice.

  • Pre-2008 Senior Certificate Holders: Must have a Senior Certificate with at least a D grade in English at the standard grade, and recommended subjects include Biology, Mathematics, Physical Science, and Physiology.
  • Post-2008 National Senior Certificate Holders: Must have a National Senior Certificate with higher certificate endorsement and at least a level 4 in English. A minimum APS of 23 is also required.

Candidates are evaluated through TUT’s potential assessment and an interview process. Relevant work experience and previous qualifications in dental assisting can also be considered for admission.

Duration and Presentation:

The program lasts one year for full-time students or can be spread over two years for those currently employed in dental practices, with block-mode classes provided.

Intake and Additional Requirements:

  • Admission is in January.
  • A valid first-aid certificate and Hepatitis B immunization are mandatory.
