TUT Department of Journalism / Capital Media- Caxton

TUT Department of Journalism / Capital Media- Caxton

The Department of Journalism has a Memorandum of Understanding with Capital Media. The community newspaper group, part of Caxton & CTP Printers and Publishers Ltd, publishes nine weekly titles and distributes more than 300 000 newspapers across Pretoria weekly. This industry partnership entails producing editorial content for Capital Media’s community newspaper, Record Noweto, which is distributed in Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa.

Annually approximately 90 second-year journalism students write weekly news articles for Record Noweto on a rotational basis. This presents students with a unique opportunity to gain practical print and online media experience. Moreover while writing for the community newspaper, students compile comprehensive portfolios that are used to secure work-integrated learning positions.

By means of the Memorandum of Understanding, Capital Media and the Department of Journalism confirm their commitment to training journalists and their responsibility with regard to community upliftment in the greater Soshanguve area.
