TUT Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering

ADMISSION GUIDELINES

For those with a Senior Certificate (Before 2008)

    • Prerequisites:
      • Either a Senior Certificate or a similar qualification.
      • C grade in English and Mathematics at Standard Grade or D grade at Higher Grade.
      • D grade in Physical Science at Standard Grade or E grade at Higher Grade.
    • Selection Basis:
      • An Admission Point Score (APS) of 20 or above is necessary.
    • Preferred Courses: None specified.

For National Senior Certificate Holders (2008 onwards)

    • Prerequisites:
      • National Senior Certificate with a higher certificate endorsement or its equivalent.
      • Score of at least 4 in English (either home or first additional language) and Mathematics or Technical Mathematics.
      • Score of at least 3 in Physical Sciences or Technical Sciences.
      • Those not meeting Mathematics or Physical Sciences prerequisites can enroll in a TVET College. Upon achieving at least 50%, they can reapply to the university.
    • Selection Basis:
      • A minimum APS of 20 is required.
    • Preferred Courses: Engineering Graphics and Design, or Mechanical Technology.

For Graduates from TVET (formerly FET) Colleges

    • Prerequisites:
      • A National Certificate (Vocational) at NQF Level 4, endorsed by Umalusi.
      • Scores of at least 50% in English and Mathematics and 40% in Physical Sciences, accompanied by three vocational subjects.
