Title: Unlocking a Promising Future with a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry

Are you passionate about unraveling the mysteries of matter, understanding chemical processes, and making groundbreaking discoveries? If so, a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (NDAC) might be your gateway to an exciting and fulfilling career in the world of science. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the details of this qualification, shedding light on its significance, admission requirements, curriculum, and what it offers to aspiring chemists.

The NDAC: An Overview

Qualification code: NDAC03 – NQF Level 6

The NDAC is a prestigious qualification offered at the Arcadia Campus. It opens doors to a wide range of opportunities in the field of analytical chemistry, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this dynamic industry.

Important Notice for New Applicants

If you’re considering enrolling in the NDAC for the first time in 2017 or beyond, take note of a crucial change in the educational landscape. Starting from 2020, the NDAC will be replaced by qualifications aligned with the newly-implemented Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. For the most up-to-date information on these new qualifications, we strongly advise you to consult the University’s website.

Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria

The NDAC program caters to students with varying academic backgrounds. Depending on when you obtained your senior certificate, different admission requirements and selection criteria apply:

For Applicants Who Obtained a Senior Certificate Before 2008:

  • Admission Requirement: A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification, with an E symbol at Higher Grade or a D symbol at Standard Grade for English, Mathematics, and Physical Science.
  • Selection Criteria: Meeting these minimum requirements will make you eligible for admission to either the National Diploma or the National Diploma (Extended Curriculum). Your performance in the Senior Certificate will determine which one you’ll be registered for.

For Applicants Who Obtained a National Senior Certificate in or After 2008:

  • Admission Requirement: A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language), 4 for Mathematics, and 4 for Physical Sciences.
  • Selection Criteria: To be considered, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 21. As with the previous category, your performance in the National Senior Certificate will determine whether you’re registered for the National Diploma or the National Diploma (Extended Curriculum).

Program Duration and Presentation

The NDAC program spans three years and is presented through day classes, making it accessible to both full-time students and those with other commitments.

Intake for the Qualification: January Only

To join this exciting journey, mark your calendars for January, as this is the sole intake period for the NDAC program.

Practicals: A Crucial Component

In the NDAC program, hands-on experience is essential. Students are required to attend 100% of practical classes and pass the practical component of each subject to be eligible for examination.

Textbooks and Personal Protective Equipment

Be prepared to invest in textbooks and other educational materials required for the program. Additionally, specific safety wear is mandatory (where applicable), and students must purchase it themselves to ensure their safety during practical sessions.

Work-Integrated Learning and Subject Credits

The NDAC program incorporates Work-Integrated Learning opportunities, aligning your academic knowledge with real-world experiences. Subject credits are awarded, and details can be found in the prospectus.

Curriculum Overview

The NDAC curriculum is divided into three years, each offering a rich array of subjects designed to equip you with a deep understanding of analytical chemistry. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll explore:
