Unlocking Opportunities: Admission Details for National Diploma Applicants

If you’re considering pursuing a National Diploma at this institution, understanding the admission requirements and selection criteria is crucial. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria:

For Applicants with Senior Certificates (Pre-2008):

  • You should hold a Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
  • Your English and Mathematics grades should be D symbols (50 – 59%) at Higher Grade or C symbols (60 – 69%) at Standard Grade.
  • For Physical Science, you need an E symbol (40 – 49%) at Higher Grade or a D symbol (50 – 59%) at Standard Grade.
  • To be considered for the National Diploma, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) within the range of 20 to 27. Those with scores in this range will be considered for the extended program.

Assessment Procedure:

  • All applications received by the specified due dates will be ranked based on the APS achieved.
  • After considering the Departmental Student Enrolment Plan (SEP), the highest-ranked applicants will be accepted to fill available slots.
  • A waiting list will be created for remaining applicants, providing them with an opportunity to secure a place if accepted students fail to meet enrolment dates.

For Applicants with National Senior Certificates (Post-2008):

  • You should have a National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification.
  • You need an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language), 4 for Mathematics, and 3 for Physical Sciences.
  • If you don’t meet the criteria for Mathematics and/or Physical Sciences for admission to the National Diploma or National Diploma (extended), you have the option to enroll for Mathematics N3/N4 and/or Engineering Sciences N3/N4, or Mathematics and/or Engineering Sciences through the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) at NQF Level 4 at any Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College.
  • Successful completion of these subjects at a performance level of at least 60% (for the National Diploma) or 50% (for National Diploma – extended) will allow you to reapply for admission to the qualification at the university.

Selection Criteria for Post-2008 Applicants:

  • To be considered for the National Diploma, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 28.
  • Applicants with a score within the range of 20 to 27 will be considered for the extended program.
