Important Information for New Applicants
If you’re considering enrolling in this qualification for the first time in 2017 or beyond, there’s an important note to keep in mind. Starting from 2020, the Baccalaureus Technologiae program will no longer be available. Instead, new qualifications aligned with the Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework will replace it. Make sure to check the university’s website for updates on these new qualifications.
Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria
The National Diploma in Entrepreneurship has different admission requirements and selection criteria based on your academic background. Here’s a breakdown:
For Applicants Who Obtained a Senior Certificate Before 2008:
- Admission requirement: A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Recommended subjects: Commercial subjects.
- Selection criteria: Selection is based on departmental selection and a TUT potential assessment, with different weightings for various subjects.
For Applicants Who Obtained a National Senior Certificate in or After 2008:
- Admission requirement: A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification.
- Recommended subjects: Commercial subjects.
- Selection criteria: Applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 22. Different scores apply for the National Diploma (Extended Curriculum).
For Applicants With a National Certificate (Vocational):
- Admission requirement: A National Certificate (Vocational) with specific subject achievements.
- The certificate must be in fields such as management, marketing, hospitality, tourism, and more.
- Selection criteria: Applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 27.
Curriculum Overview
The National Diploma in Entrepreneurship is a three-year program that equips you with the essential skills needed to thrive as an entrepreneur. Here’s a glimpse of the curriculum:
First Year:
- Communication I
- Credit Control I
- Marketing I
- Small Business Management I
Plus, you can choose one of the following subjects:
- Production Management I (Polokwane Campus)
- Personal Selling I
Second Year:
- Administrative Management I
- Marketing II (Prerequisite: Marketing I)
- Small Business Management II (Prerequisite: Small Business Management I)
- Labour Relations and Law IIA
Third Year:
- Costing and Estimating
- Marketing III (Prerequisite: Marketing II)
- Small Business Management III (Prerequisite: Small Business Management II)
In the second semester of the third year, you’ll also embark on Work-Integrated Learning to gain practical experience in the field.
