Important Notification to New Applicants
Before we delve into the specifics of the National Diploma, there’s an important notification for all new applicants. Starting in 2020, the National Diploma in Information Technology: Multimedia will no longer serve as a pathway to a Baccalaureus Technologiae. Instead, it’s being replaced by qualifications aligned with the new Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. Therefore, if you’re planning to enroll for this qualification in 2017 or later, be aware that continuing to a Baccalaureus Technologiae won’t be an option. Make sure to check the university’s website for information on the new qualifications.
Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria
To embark on this journey, you’ll need to meet the admission requirements and selection criteria outlined under qualification NDITF1. It’s recommended to refer to the ICT First Years’ and Foundation Unit for detailed information on these requirements.
Minimum Duration
The National Diploma spans four years, divided as follows:
- Year One: Foundation subjects
- Year Two: General first-year subjects
- Years Three and Four: Specialization subjects
Presentation
Classes for this qualification are conducted during the day, giving you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in your studies.
Intake
Admissions for this qualification are in January only, so plan your application accordingly.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Equivalence, and Status
If you have prior learning or qualifications, Chapter 30 of the Students’ Rules and Regulations provides information on how you can seek recognition and equivalence for your previous educational experiences.
Industry Exposure IIIB (Work-Integrated Learning)
Industry exposure is a crucial part of your education. You can register for Industry Exposure IIIB (Work-Integrated Learning) with the permission of the Head of the Department. For more details, refer to Chapter 5 of the Students’ Rules and Regulations (paragraphs 5.2 and 5.3).
