Important Update for New Applicants

Before we delve into the program, there’s an important update for prospective students. If you plan to enroll in this qualification from 2017 onwards, take note that it won’t be possible to pursue a Baccalaureus Technologiae (BTech) program from 2020 onwards. The BTech is being phased out and replaced by qualifications aligned with the newly-implemented Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria

The path to obtaining this National Diploma in Geology varies depending on when you obtained your senior certificate:

For Applicants Who Obtained a Senior Certificate Before 2008:

  • Admission Requirement: A Senior Certificate or equivalent with a D symbol at Standard Grade or an E symbol at Higher Grade for English, Mathematics, and Physical Science.
  • Recommended Subject: Geography.
  • Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum requirements will earn you an invitation to write an academic proficiency test. Your Senior Certificate performance will contribute 80% to the final admission score, with the academic proficiency test accounting for the remaining 20%. Successful test-takers will be shortlisted for selection by a departmental panel.

For Applicants Who Obtained a National Senior Certificate in or After 2008:

  • Admission Requirement: A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language), 4 for Mathematics, and 4 for Physical Sciences.
  • Recommended Subjects: Computer Applications Technology, Geography, and Information Technology.
  • Selection Criteria: To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 21. Selection is conducted by a departmental panel, shortlisting successful applicants.
  • Applicants with an APS score of 24 and above will be directly admitted.
  • Applicants scoring between 21 and 23 will be invited to take an academic proficiency test. The APS will contribute 80% to the final admission score, with the proficiency test accounting for the remaining 20%.
