Important Notification for Future Applicants
Before we dive into the program details, here’s an essential notification for new applicants. If you plan to enroll in this qualification for the first time in 2017 or beyond, please note that pursuing a Baccalaureus Technologiae degree won’t be possible after 2020. This change is part of our effort to align with the newly-implemented Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. Be sure to check our university’s website for any new qualifications that might not be included in this prospectus.
Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria
Now, let’s explore the admission requirements and selection criteria for this National Diploma in Graphic Design.
For Applicants with a Senior Certificate (Before 2008):
- Admission Requirement(s): A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a pass in English.
- Recommended Subject(s): Art and Design, Business Economics, Computer Studies.
- Selection Criteria: All applicants are required to submit a portfolio showcasing their work. Detailed instructions and information will be provided. Based on the portfolio assessment, successful applicants will be invited for an interview and a language proficiency assessment.
For Applicants with a National Senior Certificate (In or After 2008):
- Admission Requirement(s): A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language).
- Recommended Subject(s): None.
- Selection Criteria: To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 19. Applicants with an APS of 19 and more will be required to submit a portfolio of work to the department (details will be provided when TUT has received the application). The portfolio will contribute 60% to the final admission score, while the interview and demonstration will contribute 40%.
For Applicants with a National Certificate (Vocational):
- Admission Requirement(s): A National Certificate (Vocational) with at least 50% for English (home language or first additional language) and 50% for Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, 50% for Life Orientation (excluded for APS calculation), 60% for any other three compulsory vocational subjects, and 50% for the fourth subject.
- Selection Criteria: To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 27.
Program Details
The National Diploma in Graphic Design is a three-year program with day classes, and intake for the qualification is available in January only. Please refer to Chapter 2 of the Students’ Rules and Regulations for information regarding exclusion and readmission. Additionally, Chapter 30 of the Students’ Rules and Regulations covers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), equivalence, and status.
