Important Notice to New Applicants: Starting from 2020, it will not be possible to continue with any Baccalaureus Technologiae qualifications, as they are being replaced by qualifications aligned with the newly-implemented Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. New students are advised to check the university’s website for information on new qualifications that may not be published in this Prospectus.

Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria:

For Applicants Who Obtained a Senior Certificate Before 2008:

  • Admission requirements: A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification with English and at least one other official South African language offered in the program. Applicants with A, B, or C symbols at Higher Grade for the two languages will be given preference.
  • Recommended subjects: A third language and Computer Science or Computer Usage.
  • Selection criteria: Applicants will be selected based on academic performance and language proficiency. The selection committee may decide to interview applicants and reserves the right to limit the number of students in any given year.

For Applicants Who Obtained a National Senior Certificate in or After 2008:

  • Admission requirements: A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or a diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification, with an achievement level of at least 4 for English (home language or first additional language) and 4 for any other official South African language offered in the program.
  • Recommended subjects: Afrikaans, Northern Sotho, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, or Zulu.
  • Selection criteria: To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 20.
  • Assessment procedures: No further assessment will be done. Applicants who achieve the minimum APS will be considered until the program complement is full.
