Title: Launching Your Career in Veterinary Technology: The Extended Diploma Program

Are you passionate about animals and dream of a rewarding career working with them? If so, the National Diploma in Veterinary Technology (Extended Curriculum Programme with Foundation Provision) might be the perfect stepping stone to kickstart your journey. In this blog post, we’ll explore this qualification, its admission requirements, and what you can expect from the curriculum.

Understanding NDVEF0 – NQF Level 6

The National Diploma in Veterinary Technology, with the qualification code NDVEF0, is a program offered at the Arcadia Campus. It’s important to note that if you’re planning to enroll in this qualification from 2017 onward, changes are on the horizon. The Baccalaureus Technologiae will be phased out by 2020 and replaced with qualifications in line with the new Higher Education Qualification Sub-Framework. Stay informed about these changes by regularly checking the university’s website for updates on new qualifications.

Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria

Admission to the NDVEF0 program depends on your educational background. For those who obtained a Senior Certificate before 2008, you’ll need:

  • A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
  • A C symbol at Standard Grade or an E symbol at Higher Grade for English, Mathematics, Physical Science, and Biology or Physiology.

Selection is based on your performance in the Senior Certificate (40%), a TUT potential assessment (40%), and an interview (20%).

For applicants who obtained a National Senior Certificate in 2008 or later, the requirements are:

  • A National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s degree or diploma endorsement, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Achievement levels of at least 4 for English, 3 for Life Sciences, 3 for Mathematics, and 3 for Physical Sciences.

To be considered, applicants must have an Admission Point Score (APS) of at least 19. Higher scores (26 and above) lead to an interview, with APS contributing 80% to the admission score and the interview 20%. Scores between 19 and 25 invite applicants for a TUT potential assessment and interview, where the APS contributes 40%, the assessment 40%, and the interview 20%.
