Bachelor of Sport Science Honours

The purpose of this one-year post-Bachelor’s programme in Sport Science is to provide learners with greater understanding of the scientific basis for human performance. The programme is offered in three streams: Biokinetics, Exercise Science and Leisure Management. The curricula of the three streams have a common core content.

a) To be eligible to apply to register for the degree, a candidate must hold a Bachelors degree.

b) Eligible applicants shall be subject to selection based on the appropriateness of their academic background, the strength of their previous academic record, the availability of University resources, and University obligations in terms of University or government policies.

Curriculum and rules of combination

a) The curriculum is offered as a one year of full-time study programme.

b) There are three defined streams of specialisation in the curriculum, and students shall register for one specialisation only being : Biokinetics, Exercise Science, or Leisure Studies.

c) The modules SSBR701W1: Research Methods & Statistics and SSBR702: Research Project are compulsory modules regardless of the stream.

CHS – SPSCH 1 Curriculum for the Bachelor of Sport Science Honours

The curriculum for the qualification Bachelor of Sport Science Honours, comprising modules with a total credit value of not less than 128 credits as approved by the Senate, shall extend over two semesters of full-time study.

Purpose

To facilitate and provide an opportunity for postgraduate study, research skills development, and lif-long learning.

SCPS25 Eligibility and selection

(a) The following shall be eligible to apply for admission to the programme of study:

  1. For the Masters degree, a Bachelor of Sport Science Hons and for the Doctorate degree, a Master of Sport Science, of the University or an applicant who has been admitted by the Senate to the status of this degree in terms of general College rule.
  2. An applicant in terms of general College rule
  3. Applicants who are eligible in terms of a) shall be subject to selection.
