ABOUT THE COMPANY – UKZN & EMC

The Unit of Maritime Law and Maritime Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is housed within the School of Law and works closely with the UKZN’s School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance. Established in 2012, the department offers full-time and part-time study opportunities in Maritime Studies. The qualifications offered include Master of Commerce (MComm) in Maritime Studies, Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Maritime Studies, and LLM in Maritime Law.

The EThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC) is a non-profit company dedicated to supporting and promoting the maritime industry in the city of Durban.

ABOUT THE UKZN ETHEKWINI MARITIME CLUSTER BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Ethekwini Maritime Cluster is offering bursary funding for the academic year. The bursary covers studies towards Masters or PhD research in Maritime at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Unit of Maritime Law and Maritime Studies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UKZN EMC BURSARY

To be eligible for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Studying or accepted to study at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for Masters or PhD research in Maritime
  • Interest in maritime studies
  • Preference given to candidates from previously disadvantaged groups, but all candidates with an interest in maritime studies may apply

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UKZN ETHEKWINI MARITIME CLUSTER BURSARY

To apply for the bursary, applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documents:

  • Full Curriculum Vitae
  • Covering letter outlining why you want to conduct research in maritime
  • Draft research proposal on a maritime topic
  • Full academic record to date
  • Progress report from your supervisor (if already enrolled for Masters or PhD)
  • Proof of acceptance at the University of KwaZulu-Natal for Masters (research) or PhD in maritime (if enrolling for the first time)

Applications must be emailed to Ms Veronica Peter at the UKZN Maritime Studies Unit. The subject line of the email should be “Ethekwini Maritime Cluster Bursary Application.”

CLOSING DATE FOR THE UKZN EMC BURSARY

The closing date for the bursary application is 31 October. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.
