UNISA welcomes applications for the UNISA Master’s and Doctoral Bursary 2026-2027, a platform for students across all fields of study taught at UNISA to embark on their postgraduate journey.

Bursary Benefits: Nurturing Potential

The UNISA Master’s and Doctoral Bursary 2026-2027 provides financial assistance to students pursuing various paths:

  • Research and experimental research: Full tuition fees and research essentials covered up to R55,000 for the first three years.
  • Coursework: Full tuition fees and research essentials covered up to R25,000 for the first two years.
  • Research: Full tuition fees and research essentials covered up to R80,000 for the first four years.
  • Experimental Research: Full tuition fees and research essentials covered up to R120,000 for the first four years.

Eligibility Criteria: Unlock Your Potential

To be eligible for this bursary, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • South African citizenship or international student status, with preference given to South African students (80/20 ratio)
  • Temporary registration upon application approval
  • Completion of the Research Proposal module and supervisor’s assessment recommending financial assistance by January 31, 2026-2027, for master’s and doctoral research
  • Completion of two courses by January 31, 2026-2027, for coursework master’s degree
  • Completion of all required modules, engagement in research, and supervisor’s report recommending financial assistance by January 31, 2026-2027, for coursework master’s degree
  • Not in the first year of a master’s or doctoral program
  • Exclusion from Master of Business Administration or Master of Business Leadership registration
  • Exclusion from special study programs including non-degree-seeking programs and certificates like PGCE
  • Possession of a postgraduate degree at the same or higher NQF level as the intended qualification
  • Absence of permanent employment at UNISA

Application Process: Embarking on the Journey

Apply for the UNISA Master’s and Doctoral Bursary 2026-2027 by completing the online application form. Note that applications submitted via post or hand delivery will be disqualified.

Essential Notes: Navigating the Bursary Landscape

  • Prior to applying, review the UNISA Master’s and Doctoral Bursary Guidelines and Terms & Conditions.
  • Scholarships are granted based on academic progress reports submitted by supervisors (Section C of the application form).
  • Bursaries are awarded for up to two, three, or four years, requiring annual reapplication and continued academic progress.
  • Availability of funds determines bursary recipients.
  • Appeals may be submitted from May 1 to May 7, 2026-2027, accompanied by justification and a supporting letter from your supervisor to CGS-pgb@unisa.ac.za.
  • Appeals will not be considered in cases of insufficient funds or full bursary recipient status.
  • UNISA reserves the right to revoke the bursary in case of non-compliance or discontinued studies.
