UNISA Short Course in Anti-Corruption and Commercial Crime Investigation

Programme Duration: One Year Instruction Language: English Intended Audience: Professionals engaged in the investigation of commercial crimes and anti-corruption within both the public and private sectors.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants should hold a Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF level 4 qualification. Alternatively, relevant experience sanctioned by the Director of the Centre for Criminological Sciences may be considered.

Enrollment Window: From January 6th to February 28th.

Objective of the Programme: The curriculum is designed to impart the foundational knowledge and investigative techniques required for combating commercial crime and corruption.

Module CCCI01K – Legal Frameworks Governing Anti-Corruption and Commercial Crime Investigations Content Focus:

  • Understanding of South African legislation related to commercial crimes
  • Types of property crimes
  • Offenses impacting the Administration of Justice
  • Evidentiary law and courtroom procedures
  • Principles of civil law including delict, contract law, debt acknowledgement
  • Statutory investigative authorities

Module CCCI02L – Execution of Anti-Corruption and Commercial Crime Probes Content Focus:

  • Theory behind investigative procedures
  • Techniques for interviewing witnesses and individuals accused
  • Documenting legal affidavits and testimonies
  • Identifying and utilizing information sources
  • Basics of crime scene management
  • Protocols for search and seizure

Module PCCI02B – Enforcement of Legal Practices in Anti-Corruption and Commercial Crime Investigations Content Focus:

  • Investigating and understanding fraud, forgery, and uttering
  • Legal ramifications of theft by false pretenses
