Purpose

The purpose of this module is to empower students with the necessary training and facilitation knowledge and skills that will enable them to be effective trainers in their respective communities and work environments.

 

Target group

Professionals in the health and social sciences, counsellors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, teachers, ministers of faith, peer-counsellors, lay counsellors, religious workers etc

Tuition method

The ODL approach is followed. Study material includes tutorial letters, a prescribed book and a CD. Students are encouraged to make use of myUnisa.

 

Kind of assessment

One portfolio where students do experiential exercises, complete comprehension tests/essays, do a practical task (e.g. visit an Aids organisation) and draw on their lived experiences to answer questions.

  • Self- and target-group assessment
  • Principles of adult learning
  • Selecting and utilising training technology and methods
  • Planning and designing training modules, programmes and workshops
  • Facilitation and co-facilitation skills
  • Evaluation of the training content and process
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Managing stress
