University of Cape Town Graduation
Graduation is the highlight of the university calendar. Undergraduate and postgraduate students receive their degrees at ceremonies that take place at specified times during the year.
The university also confers honorary degreeson distinguished visitors who have made a valuable contribution to society. Other awards which are conferred during graduation include:
- The Distinguished Teacher Award is the highest accolade given to teaching staff at all levels in the university and recognises excellent teaching. Through the award, UCT acknowledges the primary place of teaching and learning in the university’s work.
- The UCT Book Award recognises the publication of outstanding books written by members of staff.
- The Creative Works Award was established to recognise major creative works, including art works, performances, productions, compositions and architectural designs produced by UCT staff.
- The Social Responsiveness Award was established in 2009. It recognises UCT academics who demonstrate that social engagement has enhanced the teaching and learning process – one of the university’s priorities.
