University of Cape Town UCT MBA Entrance Requirements

The Full-Time MBA program at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) is designed for individuals with substantial professional experience and the motivation to excel in their careers. Here are the key requirements and attributes needed for prospective candidates:

Basic Requirements:

Age Requirement: Applicants must be 25 years or older.

Work Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant work experience is required.

English Proficiency:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English or who haven’t obtained a degree from an English-speaking university may need to provide TOEFL or NBT scores.

Motivation essays, standardized assessments, and interviews are also considered for assessing English proficiency.

Standardized Assessment Score: Submission of an official score from one of the following:

  • GMAT
  • NMAT
  • Executive Assessment
  • GRE

Academic Qualification: A qualification at NQF level 8 (Bachelor Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma) is needed.

Qualification Verification for Non-South African Degrees: Applicants with non-South African qualifications should verify the equivalence of their degree with the South African Qualifications Authority.

For Applicants Not Meeting NQF Level 8:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): Candidates can apply through the RPL route and submit a Portfolio of Learning (POL) assessment.

Work Experience Requirement under RPL:

At least an NQF 4 qualification.

Typically 7 years or more of relevant work experience, depending on the NQF level. More years of experience may be required for lower NQF level qualifications. A significant portion of this experience should be in a management or relevant professional role.

Demonstration of Learning and Academic Ability: Applicants should be able to demonstrate learning and academic abilities at NQF 8 level, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and research skills.

Additional Application Requirements:

Curriculum Vitae (CV): Submission of a detailed CV covering information, employment history, and qualifications.

Referee Reports: Two referee reports must be included in the application.

Motivation Essays: Submission of three personal motivation essays for selection purposes.

Interview: Selected applicants may be required to participate in an interview.
