University Of Cape Town UCT Language Requirements
For admission to the University of Cape Town (UCT), both South African and international applicants must meet certain English language proficiency requirements:
South African Applicants
National Senior Certificate (NSC) Holders: Must pass English Home Language or First Additional Language.
Senior Certificate Holders: Need at least 40% in English on the Higher Grade (either as a first or second language).
International Applicants
International applicants, where English is not their first/home language or have not completed their secondary education in English, must provide one of the following as proof of English language proficiency:
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):
A valid TOEFL iBT Score Report (not more than 2 years old).
Overall score of 88 or above.
Minimum scores: Listening – 19, Writing – 19, Reading – 20, Speaking – 22.
IELTS (International English Language Testing System):
A valid IELTS Academic Test Report Form (not more than 2 years old).
Overall score of band 6.5 or above.
At least 6.0 in each component.
Pearson PTE Academic Test:
A valid PTE Academic Score Report (not more than 2 years old).
Overall score of 67 or above.
At least 59 in each communicative skills component.
National Benchmark Test (NBT):
A valid NBT Academic Literacy Plus score report (not more than 3 years old).
Overall score in the Intermediate Upper range or above.
