The University of the Free State (UFS) is now open for 2025-2026 undergraduate and postgraduate applications. Here’s a guide to help you navigate the application process:
For Undergraduate Applications:
Prospectus:
Check the 2025-2026 Undergraduate Prospectus for minimum entrance requirements.
Online Application:
Complete the online application.
Access the application here.
Student Number:
After submitting your application, you’ll receive a student number (Reference number). This does not mean you are accepted yet.
Grade 12 Applicants:
Submit stamped copies of your final Grade 11 and/or Grade 12 June report.
Transfer Students:
Provide a full academic record/transcript and certificate of conduct from your previous institution.
GED Test:
The GED test is not accepted for undergraduate qualifications.
Consider completing a Grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI or equivalent.
USAF Accreditation:
Required for applicants who did not complete NSC/IEB.
Apply for conditional exemption online here or via email to applications@usaf.ac.za.
For Postgraduate Applications:
Postgraduate Prospectus:
Review the 2025-2026 Postgraduate Prospectus.
Direct Application or Pre-registration:
Some programmes require direct application to the department or pre-registration. Check the faculty and departmental pages for specifics.
Online Application:
Complete the online application and obtain a student number (Reference number).
Admission Process:
Admission is separate and involves evaluation by the relevant faculty.
Additional Documentation:
Check faculty/department websites for any additional documents needed (e.g., CV, motivation letter, thesis proposal).
Foreign Qualifications:
For foreign qualifications, submit an official transcript, conduct certificate, and a SAQA certificate.
Advanced Diploma Applications:
Although undergraduate, these are processed as postgraduate due to the level of previous study involved.
