To apply for admission to the University of Pretoria, you can follow these steps:

Before you begin the application process, please make sure to review the admission requirements of the University of Pretoria to ensure you meet the necessary criteria.
The University of Pretoria does not make use of representatives, agents, or agencies during the application process. Applying directly is recommended.
Online Application Process:
- Ensure that you have access to a computer with a supported browser, such as Internet Explorer (IE) version 7 or 8, or higher.
- You will need to provide an email address during the application process, so make sure you have a valid email address. If needed, you can create a new Gmail email address.
- As part of the application, you will be asked to provide either your South African National ID number or, if you are an international applicant, your Passport number.
- Depending on your status (new first-year student or postgraduate student), select the appropriate “Career” when prompted during the application:
- Undergraduate career for new first-year students.
- Postgraduate career for those who have already obtained one or more degrees.
- If you are applying as an undergraduate applicant for the first time, you will need to provide details of your School and School results, which could include:
- Your year-end Grade 11 marks, or
- If you have completed Grade 12, your final Grade 12 results.
- Ensure that you record your marks/symbols accurately and in the correct sequence as reflected on your school document. Incorrectly recorded marks may lead to rejection or revocation of admission.
- If you are applying for a postgraduate degree, provide details of your previous degree(s), including degree description, institution, and year of graduation. You will also need to scan and upload a comprehensive certified academic record and a certificate of conduct.
- Prepare your supporting documents in PDF format. You will need to scan these documents into separate PDF files. Refer to the “Guidelines for preparing documents to be uploaded” for assistance.
- After scanning, save the documents with Acrobat or CutePDF, not Acrobat Reader.
- You will need to upload these PDF files during the application process.
- The University of Pretoria may require additional or original documents, depending on specific admission requirements.
- Submit your online application by completing the full online application form and uploading all the necessary scanned supporting documents in PDF format.
- Pay the application fee by credit card or upload proof of bank deposit at Standard Bank, Account Number 012602604 (see checklist).
- Click “VERIFY” and “APPLY” to officially submit your online application. If you have not clicked APPLY, your form has not been submitted.
After Applying:
Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive an allocated student number (EMPLID) via email within approximately 15 working days.
You will also receive instructions on how to access your Student Centre through the UP Student Portal, where you can track your progress and status.
Some applications for specialized fields might only be processed after the official closing date.

Postgraduate students are automatically considered for a UP Postgraduate Scholarship if they have enrolled before 31 May in the year of study. Scholarship awards are subject to approval by the Research Committee and are not guaranteed.
