The Department of Accounting is responsible for managing the BCom in Accounting Sciences, BComHons in Accounting Sciences and Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy (CTA) programmes offered at the Hatfield Campus. These programmes are accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants as part of its education requirements for qualification as a CA(SA). The University of Pretoria has a proud record in respect of the performance of our students in the Intitial Test of Competence (formerly the Qualifying Examination) of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Furthermore, we offer a variety of financial accounting modules which contribute to various academic programmes, as compulsory modules or elective modules.
We are well equipped to offer master’s and doctoral degrees in accounting. The Department established the highly respected accounting research journal Meditari in the mid-nineties of the previous century.
