The Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA) is an official education and training authority in South Africa with the goal of increasing the quantity and quality of critical and scarce skills within the insurance sector. INSETA provides various skill development and training programs, including bursaries, learnerships, and internships, to bridge the skills gap within the insurance sector.
About the UWC/INSETA Bursary Program:
UWC offers undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to apply for the INSETA bursary program, designed for students pursuing studies at the university in the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursary covers NQF Level 6 to 8 qualifications and is available for various fields of study, including:
- Accounting (BCom or BAdmin)
- Data Science/Data Analyst
- Economics (BCom or BAdmin)
- Finance (BCom or BAdmin)
- Financial Planning (Loss Adjustor)
- Information Technology
- Insurance (BCom or BAdmin)
- Investments (BCom or BAdmin)
- Law Degrees (with specializations in Financial Planning, Insurance, or Pension Fund)
- Marketing
- Risk (BCom or BAdmin)
- Postgraduate and Honors studies in the above areas
The bursary covers tuition fees, prescribed textbooks, and accommodation.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the UWC/INSETA Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- South African citizenship
- Age under 35 years old
- Unemployed status
- Registered undergraduate or postgraduate student at UWC
- Minimum overall average of 60% for the previous year of study
- Financial need
- Not receiving any other study funding

Follow these steps to apply for the UWC/INSETA Bursary:
- Download and complete the UWC INSETA Bursary Application Form (.pdf).
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- Identity Document (certified copy)
- Matric Certificate (certified copy) for 1st-year students
- Official academic transcript for senior students
- Proof of registration at UWC
- Send your application and supporting documents via email to Mrs. Afiesa Duarte at aduarte@uwc.ac.za. In the email subject line, include “UWC INSETA Bursary Application.”
Closing Date:
The closing date for the UWC/INSETA Bursary is May 21, at 16:30. Ensure that you submit your application before the closing date to be considered.
