Varsity College Orientation

Varsity College Orientation

The first week as a student was filled with a lot of excitement for most at Varsity College Durban North earlier this month. This year’s Orientation Week (O’Week) was designed to welcome new students to and integrate them into the campus and featured events such as information filled academic days which took place on Monday, 6 February 2017 and Tuesday, 7 February 2017. Students were treated to a Wet ‘n Wild Fun Day at uShaka Marine World on Wednesday, 8 February 2017 and the next day they enjoyed outdoor games and top SA DJs including Cape Town’s Chunda Munki. Friday, 10 February 2017 first years attended their first Varsity College party night at The Locker Room. Programme Orientation was held over two days after Orientation Week on Saturday, 11 February 2017 and Monday, 13 February 2017, both parents and students attended this event hosted by the Varsity College Durban North Principal, Margi Boosey, where all first year students were provided with information that will assist with a smooth transition from high school to tertiary.

“Orientation week is very important for all our first year students and is one of the biggest events we do on campus, this week has given them the opportunity to learn how the campus works and gave them the opportunity to make new friends,” said Matthew Burgess Social Coordinator Varsity College Durban North. “Thank you to all our first years for attending the different sessions and having fun with us on and off campus, we wish you a phenomenal year ahead,” Matthew continued.

This year’s Orientation Week had a great balance of information days and fun days – the first year students were introduced to their relevant staff members who will be guiding them throughout the year and they also met with their lecturers and were informed about what their study programmes entail.

The fun days were an indication of the Varsity College Durban North campus experience, where students are encouraged to have a social life, give back to the community and participate in sports. Varsity College Durban North looks forward to making 2017 a remarkable year for the first year students as well as the rest of the students on campus.
