FLB MOVING FORWARD TO SANDTON CAMPUS
Four years ago, Forbes Lever Baker (FLB), one of South Africa’s most respected centres of excellence for Accounting and Commerce education joined forces with Varsity College, The Independent Institute of Education and the ADvTECH Group.
This relationship is about to be taken to the next level as FLB is now relocating from the current Randburg address, to the Varsity College Sandton campus. This relocation will be in full effect from January 2014.
Our students will enjoy many benefits as a result of this relocation. Sandton is the heart of the commercial and financial district in South Africa. The high quality FLB lecturing team will still be working their magic in their respective fields and students will have increased access to the vibrant social, sport and campus life as well as library, media and study centre.
An expert academic support team on the Sandton campus will assist the FLB students to continue their high-achievement trajectory, and the increased security, excellent facilities and amenities as well as secure parking make this move a highly beneficial one.
Information will be made available on www.flb.co.za
FAQs
Will there be a 24 hour study centre?
Answer
There is not a 24 hour Study Centre at Varsity College Sandton, however there is a fully equipped library with purpose built study sections. Additional study venues that will operate for later hours during peak test exam times are being considered.
Will students still be allowed to write their exams at FLB/VC?
Answer
We will be in discussion with UNISA regarding the relocation of FLB to VC Sandton, however, given the capacity of the campus it may not be possible to operate as an exam centre. Exam centres are, however, located in many convenient locations, and we strongly recommend selecting the one closest to your home, for convenience sake.
Travel changes — is there access to taxis?
Answer
Taxis do operate near campus, and during peak times, are waiting outside campus to collect students. Students now have better access to the Gautrain system as there is a bus stop on Benmore Road, a 2 minute walk from Varsity College. There is also an opportunity to use the new Old Mutual sponsored Tuk Tuk transport network that operates in the Sandton CBD. http://www.oldmutual.co.za/about-us/media-centre/press-releases.aspx?NavID=1897&ContentID=4168
Traffic congestion. Will it be an increased consideration?
Answer
There will be different traffic trends depending on your route, however traffic congestion is generally the same in Randburg CBD is in Sandton CBD , the lecture start times are also generally staggered during the course of the day and night in an attempt to avoid peak traffic times .
Parking facilities. Is there enough parking?
Answer
There is plentiful, secure parking on the Varsity College campus. However, in order to accommodate the move, an extension to the current facilities is also currently being planned as well as suitable alternative parking venue close by. Parking facilities will be monitored closely and adjustments made to ensure that this does not become frustrating.
Will the lecturers be the FLB lecturers?
Answer
Many of the current FLB lecturers will continue to lecture classes and modules as is current. In addition, the best combination of lecturers will be deployed to ensure continued and increased academic excellence.
What will my learning environment be like?
Answer
Come and experience it for yourself! We are arranging an open day so that all FLB students can come and see this beautiful environment and all that it offers. Details to appear on campus, on this website and through your FLB staff. Alternatively, email relocation@flb.co.za
Will VC have a Muslim prayer room like FLB does?
Answer
Varsity College will accommodate Muslim students as we do on all our campuses. An appropriate space will be made available to all our Muslim students at the required times.
