Varsity College UFS
LLB
The field of law is inextricably linked with an ethical and moral desire to transform society. A Bachelor of Laws degree is the first step towards practicing in the legal world. A law degree also provides exciting opportunities within industry, government and other organisations.
WHO IS THIS DEGREE AIMED AT?
If you love to read and apply your mind to complex questions of a legal nature, you should consider studying this degree. It will appeal to those who have a strong sense of justice and wish to transform society. It will also appeal to those who like to blend their problem solving skills with their tenacity in the business or government arena.
WHAT ENTRY REQUIRMENTS WILL I NEED TO STUDY THIS DEGREE?
To be registered as a candidate for this LLB degree you must have satisfied the following admission requirements:
NSC with Bachelor entry (or the equivalent), will have written the NBT AQL test, and have met the admission point AP-score of 26 or more
Note however that all students with an AP score of 26-27 and/or an NBT AL score of less than 64 will have to attend and complete a compulsory Developmental module – completion of this module is then a UFS graduation requirement for these students. If the NBT AL results are not available or submitted at registration, then you will automatically be registered for the compulsory Developmental module.
Alternatively,
If you are 23 years or older at the time of application (with NSC and Bachelor entry or equivalent), have written the NBT AQL test, and have not met an M-Score of more than 25 points (or the equivalent) you may apply to UFS for direct entry into the UFS 4-year LLB degree in 2016. UFS will approve these applications on a case-by-case basis. Age exemption is not an automatic entry onto the UFS 4 year LLB degree in 2016. An approval process will need to be followed which is influenced by what you did from leaving school until date of application – a Varsity College Student Advisor can assist you with this process. Please make an appointment to discuss your application for age exemption soonest.
Varsity College does offer a range of alternatives for you if you do not achieve the admission requirements outlined above, including an access route to the 4-year UFS LLB degree for those who still aspire to UFS law studies. Should you wish to explore these alternatives, please contact a Student Advisor.

TIMETABLES
Our full time programmes are aimed at students wishing to dedicate themselves to full time face to face studies for the duration of their qualification. This means that you are expected to be available for classes during the morning and/or afternoon throughout the academic year depending on how the timetable is structured. Unfortunately, students are not necessarily able to select a morning or afternoon format to suit their personal circumstances. We absolutely encourage you to take up part-time employment outside of class time, weekends and in the evenings, but full-time students must prioritise their studies and avoid committing to work schedules until after you have received your timetables and academic calendar, to ensure that the two do not clash, with the understanding however, that your studies must still take priority over work, and that timetables remain subject to change throughout the year.
While we strive to offer time efficient timetables (where classes are grouped together into the morning or the afternoon), we cannot guarantee that either format will necessarily be available for all programmes every semester. Where students are repeating modules, these modules may be offered in the evenings or weekends. You are required to attend classes or, should the module be offered online or via distance, workshops may be provided. You may also be required to write assessments or submit coursework or assignments outside of normal class-time. .
