Cape Town is known for its gorgeous scenery and laid-back vibe, but Joburg is known for its active rush and fast-paced bustle. The city’s central business area (CBD), dubbed “the African Manhattan,” is the nerve center of South Africa’s financial and entertainment industries.
Joburg’s shopping scene is world-class. Not only are there numerous upscale malls with luxury stores and glittering casinos (such as Sandton City), but there is also a diverse selection of multicultural marketplaces. Yeoville Market, for example, is brimming with colorful textiles, spices, and food from all over the continent.
