A safari requires casual, comfortable clothing, binoculars, and a sense of adventure.
BLENDABLE CLOTHES
For game viewing, wear muted-colored, lightweight clothing. Game drives are typically conducted in the early morning and late afternoon, when it can be cold, particularly in the winter. Because the temperature frequently rises during the day, it is best to dress in layers.
Khaki, green, beige, and neutral clothing
T-shirts
Shorts or a light skirt are appropriate.
For evenings and cooler days, wear jeans or safari trousers.
Jackets, windbreakers, fleece, and sweaters are recommended for early morning and late afternoon game drives.
In case of rain, a lightweight waterproof jacket.
Beachwear and swimwear
Walking shoes or sneakers that are comfortable
For around the pool, wear flip flops.
Baseball cap or hat
A cozy scarf or pashmina
Mittens or gloves
MONITOR YOUR WEIGHT
On small flights, the luggage allowance is usually limited to a maximum of 20kg (44 lbs), which includes hand luggage, so keep this in mind when packing. The majority of lodges and camps offer same-day laundry service for your clothes.

It is best to keep your critical medications in your hand luggage.

Tablets containing antihistamines
Anti-nausea medication
Sanitizer for the hands

What can’t you take on safari?
Avoid wearing black or dark blue clothing (both colors attract tsetse flies), and leave bright white clothing at home; safari parks are often dusty, and white clothing can become dingy. You go on safari to see wildlife, not to look like it! Avoid wearing bright or day-glo colors because they may attract insects, and because the tsetse fly (which has a nasty bite) prefers black and blue, avoid wearing denim. Forget about camouflage clothing; that is best left to the South African military.
Should I bring money with me to South Africa?
Cash can be used anywhere and is especially useful when traveling to more rural areas where electronic payment points may not be available. While it’s always a good idea to have some South African notes and coins on hand, it’s not a good idea to have all of your overseas spending money in this form.
Can GREY be worn on a safari?
Lightweight pants in light colors such as cream, khaki, Chinos, or grey are ideal for game drives and walks. You’ll want to cover up at night to avoid mosquito bites, especially in malaria-infested areas, so save your shorts for the day. Rogue Long Sleeve Shirt in Safari Light Brown is our recommendation.
