Good Friday in South Africa usually occurs in April each year, but the exact date changes from year to year. Every four years, Good Friday falls on Easter Saturday and then on Easter Monday, so it’s possible to have three consecutive days of Good Friday celebrations in South Africa. The date of Good Friday this year (2018) is 16 April 2018, so make sure to note that date down so you can plan your time off properly! In 2019, Good Friday will fall on 18 April 2019 and then again on 19 April 2019.

What is the date of Easter?

Easter is a time for Christians to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It celebrates the victory over sin and death and is a time for new life. The date of Easter changes each year as it falls on a Sunday, but it will always be somewhere between March 22nd- April 25th. This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 1st.

If I have to work on Good Friday, am I required to be paid time-and-a-half?

No. Even though many people are required to work on Good Friday, they are not entitled to time-and-a-half. That is because the law does not mandate that companies pay their employees more for working on a public holiday. The only exception is if the company has negotiated with their employees and agreed to pay them time-and-a-half for working on holidays.
