Ramadan in South Africa—depending on the sighting of the moon- is expected to begin on the 2nd of April. The first day of fasting will begin on Saturday the 2nd of April. Because of the night preceding the day in the Islamic calendar, the first Tarawih is expected to take place on Friday evening.
Depending on whether a sighting takes place,- Ramadan in SA will begin with a gathering of Muslims at local Masjids and Musallahs throughout South Africa. Registration to join these gatherings can be found online, where you can find your nearest Musallah or Masjid that offers this service.
This year’s 30 days of fasting will end with the Eid ul Fitr celebrations which will take place on Sunday 3rd May 2021. Depending on the sighting of the moon and other factors like time zones, this date may change slightly but will only differ by a day or so at most.
