The Amaryllis bulb is native to the Cape of South Africa and will thrive in most garden beds, containers, or pots. You can plant or transplant an Amaryllis bulb in the ground anytime between September and January. Plant bulbs in holes that are 3 times the size of the bulb. Place it close to the surface with the top third of the bulb exposed. When watering, do not water on the leaves, but on the soil around the base of the plant and avoid wetting its foliage.
The plant requires well-drained soil that is pH 6.0 to 7.8, but it does not like too much water or cold temperatures (below 5 degrees Celsius).
Plant bulbs in holes that are 3 times the size of the bulb and place them close to the surface with the top third of their stems exposed so they can breathe during winter months when they might otherwise dry out completely!
