Kloof is a suburb of Durban, South Africa in the eThekwini metropolitan area. It is located in uMhlanga, on the northern bank of the Duzi River, 6 km from King Shaka International Airport and 15 km from Durban city centre. Kloof is a popular residential area with a number of restaurants, shops and entertainment facilities within easy reach.
Description
Kloof is an upper-class town, that includes a smaller area called Everton, located approximately 26 km northwest of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The name Kloof is Afrikaans for “gorge” or “ravine”, which describes the land surrounding it. The town was established on part of the farm Volksrust 290B and was proclaimed by Governor Sir Walter Francis Hely-Hutchinson on 31 July 1894. It was named after Major John Charles Kloeffler who died in action at Spion Kop during the Boer War.
