One of the largest churches in the country is Abundant Life Church. With a congregation of more than 100,000 people, it was established in 1967 and operates multiple campuses around Johannesburg. The denomination is Pentecostal and has a strong emphasis on healing and prosperity. Today, this church is under the leadership of Bishop David Oyedepo.
First Baptist Johannesburg
Founded in 1894, First Baptist Johannesburg is the largest church south of the Sahara Desert with a current attendance of over 8,000. The beautiful red brick building is located on Oxford Road.
Good News Church
The Good News Church is the largest church in South Africa. It was founded on March 27, 1986, by Bishop George Raboteau. In 1997, the church moved to its current location of 32 acres near Durban. In 2008, it became a member of the Evangelical Alliance of South Africa (EASA). The church has grown so much that today they have branches across five continents.
Apostolic Faith Mission at Westgate Mall
Apostolic Faith Mission is one of the largest churches in Johannesburg, with a congregation of over 20,000 people. The church was founded by Bishop William Ruben who has been the leader since the church’s inception. In addition to its congregation, Apostolic Faith Mission also runs a number of programs for children and young adults including an orphanage, day care centre and boarding school.
